THE ETERNAL NOW - PART 2

"Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3

"Father, I desire that they also, who Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, in order that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me; for Thou didst love Me before the foundation of the world." John 17:24

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." Ephesians 1:3

In the last article, we discovered that finding the true "Now" is not possible within time itself. We seem to be trapped within past and future and the closest we can get to living "in the moment" is actually living in the recent past. However, if we were able to travel outside of time and then into the One who called Himself the "I AM" then we could actually experience this thing we call the "now." Whether you are a believer or not, I propose to you that you are looking in the wrong place for this experience of living in the moment. That cannot happen here. It can only happen in a completely different place. It can only happen in a place that Jesus said He would go to prepare for us; a place where we could go to behold Him and be with Him and experience Him as the great "I AM."

The Father's House

What and where is the Father's house? I realize that when most of us read this passage in John 14 about the Father's house we get this picture in our minds of this palace or castle floating among the clouds up there in the upper atmosphere. There are these mansions floating up there that are just waiting for us to come and inhabit once we die and go to "heaven." But is this really what Jesus was talking about when He said that in His Father's house there are many "mansions" and He goes to prepare a place for us? Is He really talking about mansions in the sky?

First of all, we need to realize that in verse 2, the word "mansions" is not in the original language. That is actually a very poor translation. I mean after all, think about it. Does it make sense that the Lord would say "In my Father's house there are many mansions?" One "mansion" is bigger than a "house!" No, actually, a much better translation of that word is "dwelling places" or "rooms." Now, that makes sense. In my Father's house are many rooms. I go to prepare a room for you.

The Dwelling Place of the Lord

But what is this "room" that the Lord is talking about here and what does this have to do with living in the "now?" Well, the Lord goes on to tell us that this dwelling place or room is actually the place where He is. He tells us that He will receive us to Himself so that where He is, we may be also. This is all spoken of in the present tense.

To understand this, let's take a look at a similar passage in John 7:34. "You shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I AM you cannot come." Notice with me that He does not say "where I am going you cannot come," but rather, where I am! There is that name again; I AM. Here is the one who is eternally present, the Eternal Now. Living in the moment means living in Him! He has placed Himself within us so that we can come to Him and abide in Him because He has placed that "room" of the Father's house within us. That room exists inside of your spirit, and He IS that room! So now, as a believer, you can enter into the holy of holies and not only be in His presence, you can be in Him! Dear saints, He IS the holy of holies, He IS the Ark of the Covenant, and He IS the Father's house! He prepared Himself so that we could enter into Him and fellowship with Him internally just as He fellowshipped with the Father internally while He was here on earth.

The Tabernacle Inside

This, my brothers and sisters, is the New Covenant. After Pentecost, everything became internal when the Lord came to live within us by the Holy Spirit. Now, we have continual access to the I AM, and therefore to the Eternal Now. This is the only place where you can live "in the moment." Let's learn how to enter into this place called "spirit" where there is no past or future and everything is in the Eternal Now.
