" . . . that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."   Colossians 2:2, 3

The Need for Revelation

Our perceptions of Christ are way too narrow. We think in terms that are way too small. He is so much greater than any of our mental pictures of Him. He is so much more glorious than any of our doctrinal concepts or religious boxes that we have tried to put Him in. We are talking here about God whose riches are unsearchable, whose depths are unfathomable, and whose heights are unscalable. He will always break every kind of mold that we try to fit Him into. We definitely need to have our vision enlarged.

The Mystery of God

Paul tells us in the letter to the Colossians that God has a secret. Inside of the "secret" are hidden all of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Wow! Think of that. There is a secret (or mystery) and inside of that secret are hidden treasures! A secret within a secret. It almost sounds like that treasure that was hidden in a field that the Lord talked about. God's secret is Christ Himself! And in Him are hidden all of these treasures. Spiritual knowledge and wisdom are to be found inside of a Person. We keep looking for them inside of our own minds. We keep using the tool of human reasoning and logic to come up with the knowledge we are seeking. We search the scriptures, paste together verses, think about them a whole lot, and then come up with our doctrines. Yet all spiritual knowledge is hidden and locked up away inside of a Person. And that Person is God's mystery! It seems to me that God wanted to make sure that these "treasures" didn't get out to just anyone.

Does God Wear Son-glasses?

Jesus said in Matthew 11:27, that no one knows the Son except the Father and no one knows the Father except the Son and the ones to whom He wills to reveal Him. You cannot know the Son unless the Father reveals Him to you. When Peter made the proclamation that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, Jesus told him that it was not flesh and blood, but rather His Father that revealed this to Peter. This is an initial revelation that all believers must have to be born from above. We must spiritually see that Christ is the Son of God. However, this is not the only revelation we need from the Father.

We also need the revelation that Paul shared in Galatians 1:15, 16. He told the Galatians that it pleased God to reveal His Son in me. This is a revelation that is desperately needed among believers today. Let's take a closer look at this statement made by Paul.

First of all, we see that it pleased the Father to reveal His Son in Paul. God is very happy and passionate about revealing His Son. In fact, He is waiting on the edge of His seat, so to speak, to reveal His Son in each and every one of us. Not only that, but His favorite thing to do is reveal, display, express, and glorify His Son. Everything He does is with this goal in mind. This is what He "dreams" about. This is what He longs for. This is what motivates Him to get "out of bed" every morning! He only has eyes for His Son. You could say that He wears Son-glasses! He wants to reveal His Son in you right now.

The second thing to notice is that He wants to reveal His Son. This is all about a relationship between a Father and a Son. The "cement" or glue that holds their relationship together is the Holy Spirit. God never does anything in a vacuum. Everything He does and everything He says stems from His relationship with His Son. It's a Son that He wants to reveal in you.

The Son in You!

The third thing that we need to see here is that this revelation is an unveiling of a Person who lives within you. This is more than awesome. This is so much more than incredible! This glorious, most magnificent Son in whom God has invested all His hopes and dreams; in whom God has hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge; in whom God has placed all of who His is and all of what He has done; in whom God has deposited all of His attributes, expression, and increase; it is this all inclusive One that He has placed inside of you! And now He so earnestly desires to reveal this same Son who is in you, to you!

This is a never ending revelation. This is a revelation that will be unveiling for the rest of eternity. You can never finish exploring the depths of the Christ who lives within you. God wants to not only reveal His Son to you; He also wants to reveal His Son through you! He wants to display and express all the glories of His Son to those around you by them looking at you. You are His unique expression. Open up yourself to Him and allow His life to flow out. The Father is so pleased to reveal His Son in you.
